BSN Round 11: Piratas beat Brujos by three after a very close game

Sixth-ranked Brujos (3-8) used its home court advantage to challenge second ranked Piratas (9-4) in Guayama on Wednesday. The visitors from Quebradillas managed to secure only three-point victory 72-69. However their fans expected much easier game. American forward Jamil Wilson (201-1990, college: Marquette) orchestrated the victory by scoring 23 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international forward Carlos Emory (196-1991) contributed with 17 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. American guard Terrico White (196-1990, college: Ole Miss) answered with 13 points and 8 rebounds for Brujos. Brujos' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Piratas keep a position of league leader. Brujos at the other side keep the sixth place with eight games lost. Piratas are looking forward to face league's second-placed Leones in Juana Diaz in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Brujos will play on the road against Indios (#5) in Mayaguez and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Cangrejeros (6-7) against sixth ranked Gigantes (2-7) on Tuesday night. Visiting Cangrejeros were crushed by Gigantes in Carolina 105-82. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Cangrejeros. It was a great evening for Nigerian power forward Alade Aminu (207-87, college: Georgia Tech) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Sheldon McClellan helped adding 30 points and 5 rebounds. Mali power forward Cheick Diallo (206-1996, college: Kansas) responded with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Gigantes maintains sixth place with 2-7 record. Cangrejeros at the other side keep the third position with seven games lost. Gigantes will again play against higher ranked Cangrejeros (#3) in Santurce in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Cangrejeros will play on the road against the league's second-placed Leones in Juana Diaz and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
An interesting game for Leones (8-4) which hosted in Juana Diaz their close opponent Piratas (9-4). Second ranked Leones had an easy win 114-69. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. It was an exceptional evening for Jezreel De Jesus who led the winners and scored 23 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Jamil Wilson came up with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for Piratas in the defeat. Leones maintains second place with 8-4 record having just one point less than leader Quebradillas. Loser Piratas still keep top position with four games lost. Leones will again meet league's leader Piratas in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Piratas will have a break next round.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 11: Fajardo were beaten by Humacao on the road 87-81. Mayaguez won against Carolina on its own court 103-88. Guaynabo unfortunately lost to Bayamon in a road game 94-111. Arecibo managed to beat Mayaguez at home 99-92.



Humacao - Fajardo 87-81

We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when fifth ranked Grises (5-4) beat 4th placed Cariduros (5-6) in Humacao 87-81 on Monday. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Gabriel Belardo (188-1989, college: FIU) who led the winners and scored 27 points and 4 assists. American-Mexican center Daniel Amigo (208-1995, college: Denver) accounted for 11 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side. Belardo is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. International forward Emmanuel Andujar (197-1993, college: Manhattan) came up with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and American Earl Clark (208-1988, college: Louisville) added 18 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Cariduros in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Grises moved-up to fourth place. Cariduros lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth position with six games lost. Grises will again meet at home Cariduros (#5) in the next round. Cariduros will play against the league's leader Vaqueros and hope to secure a win.

Indios looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists. American point guard Dwight Buycks (191-1989, college: Marquette) accounted for 7 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists for the winning side.
